Conferences, exhibitions and events that are aimed at you particular industry can be really useful for those working in the sector.  These events represent a great opportunity for businesses to showcase their products and services to a specialised audience who have a vested interest in learning as much as possible about the industry in which they work.  If you've been invited to an event of this type, then catch yourself wondering if it's actually worth going or whether it would be a waste of your time that would be better spent on your business.  Some people may see these events as a bit of a jolly that is okay for big businesses but not particularly useful for small to medium enterprises here in the UK.

Nothing could be further from the truth - these events can be an invaluable.  Besides the usual hordes of marketers, the conference or event is also likely to be attended by all types of other business owners and workers within the industry and many of them will be looking to start new relationships with others in the industry.  Everybody you meet could prove to be a useful contact, if not right now, then perhaps in the future.  You will come into contact with so many people who have accumulated a wealth of knowledge between them - knowledge that you will be able to tap into when and if you need to.

However much experience you have in your field, there is always something new to learn.  Running your own business can be isolating and these events allow you to discuss and learn about a whole range of points of view, keeping you up to date with new ideas and trends that may well impact your business or your job in the future.  The educational aspect of a conference or exhibition can offer you a glimpse of new ways of conducting business and help you to learn to become more productive and efficient within your field.

These events are a really great opportunity to network - you will often come across competitors from other regions who may become valuable resources for referrals and best practices.  Collaboration is the name of the game when networking - helping each other discover new ideas and sparking inspiration in yourself and others.  Industry events and conferences are very often attended by the brightest and best in the sector and your attendance will mark you as one of the experts in your field.

Trade shows of this type are where new vendors and suppliers showcase their offerings (both products and services) and these can be the best people for you to get to know if you want to learn more about the current climate within your industry.  It's a place where you can discover new products and services for your business or workplace - staying competitive is essential in the fast-moving world in which we live and work today.

There is a lone worker solution health and safety exhibition in the Bolton Arena on 8th and 9th October and the Annual Lone Worker Safety Conference at the Olympia Centre in London on 25th November.  If you've never attended an industry event before, one of these would be a great place to start.
